Kimber 1911 .45 ACP is Choice of LAPD™ SIS

Yonkers, New York, April 1, 2008 - One of America's most elite law enforcement units has transitioned to Kimber 1911 .45 ACP pistols.

The LAPD™ Special Investigation Section - better known as SIS - is a highly-trained plain clothes surveillance team. They work closely with LAPD™ SWAT, and SWAT has carried Kimber® 1911 .45 ACP pistols on duty since 2002. After deciding to switch to a 1911 platform and based on SWAT's satisfaction with their pistols, SIS asked Kimber to design a duty pistol that met their unique requirements. Kimber developed a family of four pistols that SIS Detectives are now carrying, and these pistols are also available to the public through a network of 2,000 Kimber Master Dealers across America.

SIS pistols feature an elegant gray KimPro II™ premium finish that is exceptionally durable and self-lubricating. SIS-pattern slide serrations, SIS Night Sight™ with cocking shoulder for one-handed cocking, and lightweight SIS Hammer™ for reduced lock time and increased accuracy are standard features. Slides and frames are machined from stainless steel and logo grips have a special smooth/stippled pattern. Barrels, chambers and trigger groups are all match grade.

Four models of SIS pistols are offered. The SIS Custom™ is a full size 1911 with a 5-inch barrel and standard frame. The SIS Custom RL™ is identical to the Custom, but features an integral Picatinny rail for light mounting. The SIS Pro™ has a 4-inch bushingless bull barrel, making it easier to conceal. The SIS Ultra™ has a 3-inch bushingless bull barrel, abbreviated grip and rounded butt - making it ideal for concealed carry or backup. Suggested retail prices are $1,316 - $1,421.
