Process Engineer, MIM Operations

Kimber Mfg., Inc, a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with different plant locations in NY and NJ, has an immediate need for an experienced Process Engineer, MIM Operations located in our Ridgefield NJ location.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in Metal Injection Molding (MIM) as well as well-rounded skills in process engineering, team and individual problem solving, CNC and manual machining operations, finishing operations, technical communication, lean/Six Sigma manufacturing green belt practitioner, and process documentation. Candidate will be responsible for development and implementation of process improvement in all aspects of the MIM operations from beginning to end to support production needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Documentation and Process Improvement of current MIM process and technology.
  • Documentation of existing machining and finishing operations to the MIM facility.
  • Establishment of new machining and finishing operations including the documentation and procedure development and timeline management.
  • Regular reporting of progress to the MIM engineering team, both verbally and through written reports.
  • Engineering driven contributions to design and process change in support of continuous improvement and/or Lean/Six Sigma practices.
  • Technical and hands-on support of all aspects of MIM production and development.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering, Materials or Engineering/Manufacturing related field.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
  • Fundamental understanding and experience in Metal Injection Molding.
  • Fundamental understanding and experience in finishing operations on metal parts.
  • Ability to research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements based on fundamental engineering principles.
  • Experience in medium volume small metal parts machining in CNC driven operations.
  • Ability to apply Lean/Six Sigma techniques to streamline and improve all MIM related processes in support of part production and quality manufacturing goals.
  • Ability to establish and coordinate the maintenance and safety procedures, service schedule, and supply of materials required to maintain machines and equipment in the prescribed condition.

  • Responding to design-related problems identified by Manufacturing, Quality, and/or Customer Service, this position is the technical lead for Identifying root cause and driving resolution with appropriate design-related approaches
  • Working with Product Managers and their line extension product specifications, this position is the technical lead for developing suitable design solutions, driving prototype and pre-production builds, supporting validation testing, supporting manufacturability assessments, and supporting the transition to manufacturing

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical discipline

 

Required Work Experience:

  • Five years of specialized technical experience in the functional area of complex mechanical product engineering/sustaining engineering

  • Run multiple machines in a cell environment safely (vertical and horizontal)
  • Check and monitor dimensions on parts, and know how to correct them before they go out of tolerance
  • Trouble-shoot problems with tooling and fixtures
  • Make advanced program changes without supervision
  • Have a thorough understanding of features and controls of machines
  • Change part programs and check first parts before going to Q.C. dept. for approval
  • Monitor tools to maximize tool life
  • Know how to upload/download programs
  • Make minor set-ups
  • Able to run one to two machines safely (Vertical machines only) without endangering self, others, or the machine
  • Monitor dimensions consistently and reliably

Qualifications:

  • Experience running multiple CNC Milling machines in a production environment
  • Ability to comprehend technical blueprints, sketches & drawings and to accurately determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece
  • Good troubleshooting skills with a practical knowledge of tooling and milling technology used on S.St and Carbon Steels
  • Ability to perform first piece inspection using Height Gauge, Micrometer and caliper
  • Ability to understand and consistently apply safety instructions, machine operation instructions, and rules of conduct within the department
