Product Manager, Kimber Mfg., Inc. –Yonkers, NY

Product Manager. In this role, the Product Manager will be the resident champion and voice of the customer internally for Kimber products.  As such, the Product Manager supports the category’s strategic planning, oversight and performance throughout the product line lifecycle. The Product Manager’s job also includes ensuring that the Sales & Marketing efforts align with and strengthen the Kimber brand.

Responsibilities include:

The Product Manager supports the development, execution and measuring of the annual product business plan which will define product, price, promotion and distribution based on assigned metrics. The Product Manager will coordinate efforts with existing functional departments to ensure the success of new products and the overall strategic product plan. To keep category offerings viable in the marketplace, the Product Manager will understand the target consumer, identify trends, exploit opportunities, and benchmark competitive products.

- Be the in-house category expert and act as the category leader within the company.
- Must be voice of the customer and ensure the customer’s viewpoint during planning.
- Develop initial sales forecast, pricing, and gross profit to meet company objectives.
- Define the product strategy in annual plan. Outline and refine 5 year plan.
- Monitor ongoing plan execution, note deviations and pursue remedies.
- Develop product positioning and feature/benefit messaging, and ensure effective delivery of messages through marketing and sales.
- Work closely with sales on pricing and forecasting to meet revenue and profitability goals.
- Help specify market requirements for current and future products through market research supported by ongoing customer and channel feedback.
- Plan & execute successful product launches.
- Be an expert with respect to the competition and emerging relevant technologies. Manage the New Product Development process for assigned verticals.

Secondary Functions:

- Advise on an itemized advertising and promotional budget to ensure the success of annual product plan. Collaborate on the creation and distribution of sales tools and collateral in support of marketing objectives including point of purchase. Brief and train inside sales force. Perform product demonstrations to key customers. Assist marketing and sales departments with product training and related materials. Attend relevant promotional events and new product introductions. Attend industry trade shows and select store level promotions. Be consistently seeking product enhancements and technologies. Be the internal voice of the customer and channel.

Required Work Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- 3-10 years’ experience in product management, product marketing and/or product development.
- Firearms experience related to firearms, firearm manufacturing, and end-user applications.
- Experience with consumer products: firearms - outdoor market experience a plus..
- Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office suite, MS Project, Photoshop and Keyshot.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

-Fabricate precision components and/or instruments to high quality standards from a variety of materials (stainless steel, tool steel, aluminum, titanium, various plastics)

-Read, understand & interprets blueprint & drawings.

-Develops & modify layouts, repairs and/or make modifications to precision instruments, machinery, apparatus, equipment components & sub-assemblies, drawings and schematics of machined parts, tools, for use in fabricating and preforming machining operations.

-Perform routine preventive maintenance on machine shop equipment.   Recondition cutting tools and tool bits for all maintenance and construction shops.

-Sets up, operate and maintain tool grinding machines, numerically and computer controlled machines, presses, lathes, milling machines.

-Grinding experience necessary (surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, jig grinding) all to close tolerances.  Drill presses, measuring instruments and other machine shop tools.

-Select and requisition proper materials for machining, welding, brazing, burning and heat-treating.  Identify and fabricate any unique jigs, fixtures or tooling necessary to complete requested jobs.

Senior Design Engineer, Kimber Mfg., Inc. – Yonkers, NY

Kimber Mfg.,Inc., a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with different plant locations in NY and NJ, has an immediate need for an experienced Senior Design Engineer located in our Yonkers, NY location.   

In this role you will design and develop complex, non-derivative new products and support improvements to these products in the first years of production. Evaluate products, parts, and processes for cost efficiency, quality and reliability with a strong focus on brand reinforcement. Proven firearms design experience is required.

Responsibilities:

-As part of a cross-functional team, provide expert technical leadership for Product Introduction and process improvement projects as related to Kimber’s NPD program.  Support the development and execution of project milestones, resource requirements, budget and timing.

-Define product configuration and part geometry using 3-D CAD software. Develop and manage complex mechanisms.  Create fully dimensioned drawings using GD&T.

-Utilize best practices, including DFM, DFA, stack analysis, etc. and interface with manufacturing, process engineering, vendors, etc to ensure designs are optimized for cost, quality, and performance.  Use advanced analysis tools to fully qualify high risk areas of the designs, such as non-linear finite element analysis and design of experiment techniques.

-Develop technical product specifications and validation test plans.  Outline and execute empirical testing to verify concepts, ensure reliability, and refine component design.

-Manage bills of material and track component status.

-Support manufacturing during initial production of products introductions.

-Participate in business initiatives for non-routine aspects of assignment and overall business improvements to reduce overall new product development project timing and costs.

 -  Assign project related tasks to entry-level engineers and technicians, and monitor progress.

Qualifications:

-  5 – 10 years of experience in the design and development of complex mechanical mechanisms. Proven firearms design experience is required.

-Expert Solidworks user.

-Solid understanding and application of GD&T.

-Solid understanding of configuration control principles.

-Demonstrated knowledge of stage gate product introduction methods.

-Knowledge of statistics and statistical software a plus.

Responsibilities:

-Execute tasks as assigned by the MIM Operations Manager in support of the MIM operation.

-Work with engineers to develop and modify tools and molds.

-Work with molding department to determine mold repairs required.

-Make repairs to injection molds by fabricating and machining, inserts, pins, and mold components.

-Disassemble and reassemble mold tools as required.

-Fabricate tools, fixtures, ceramic setters and other components to support production as required.

-Set-up and operate all machine shop equipment, including milling, lathe, and surface grinders.

-Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels for machine shop tools and supplies.

-Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance on machine shop equipment.

-Ensure that all safety guidelines are being used daily within all aspects of the job.

-Train and mentor to lower level toolmakers/machinists.

Material Planner/Expeditor, Kimber Mfg., Inc.

Responsibilities include:

The individual will have the knowledge and skills, working in the Visual environment, to organize and prioritize the tasks to support the manufacturing schedules by identifying material shortages and satisfying these shortages thru the following:

-Movement of material throughout the system.

-Expediting vendor deliveries thru the purchasing group.

-Issuing rework orders for discrepant materials to be made acceptable.

-Counting inventory to identify shortages in inventory balances.

-This position will require working the 3 to 11pm night shift. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Compiles and maintains material and parts inventory and status information to expedite movement of material and parts between production areas, according to predetermined production schedules and order priorities.

-Reads production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine type and quantity of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority.

-Confers with department supervisors to determine overdue material and parts, and informs supervisors of material status.

-Locates and distributes materials to specified production areas, manually or using handcart, hand truck, or forklift. This could be inter-department or inter-building.

-Where necessary creates work orders to the materials warehouse so that inventory can be processed on the shop floor for rework or normal production.

-Identifies shortages to the master production schedule; works on eliminating these shortages by moving material, requests deliveries from vendors or process rework and normal work orders to make the part in question.

-Assures an even flow of materials into the assembly department to support the schedule work in the assembly department.

-Working with the inventory group, assists with cycle counting and reconciliation of material balances in Visual.

-Coordinates the planning functions on the night shifts so that schedules can be processed in the normal course of business. Works with the Master Scheduler to determine priorities on the off-hours so that the schedules for that day are attained.

Qualifications:

-3-5 years; experience working in a manufacturing environment in the function of material planning and expediting.

-Working knowledge of an ERP system, (prefer Visual Manufacturing system) with the ability to issue and create manufacturing work orders.

-Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Products including, Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

-Experience with Shop Floor Control and Capacity Planning systems

-Working towards APICS certification a plus
