CNC Process Technician Kimber Mfg., Inc. –Yonkers, NY

Responsibilities include:

-Work within a team environment to develop, refine, document, and control manufacturing processes. The bulk of this work involves CNC machines and the associated relationships between process capabilities, material removal parameters, tooling and fixture requirements, and the Design for Manufacturability of complex components.

-Create CNC programs structured around 3D-model-centric computer aided manufacturing (CAM) principles; provide technical input to Manufacturing Engineering in support of process routing steps, operational print validation and tool/fixture design.

-Provide manufacturing floor support to correct processing issues and promote continuous improvement initiatives.


Qualifications:

-Ten or more years of experience in a hands-on manufacturing process role, including experience with conventional and CNC machining processes such as milling (HMC & VMC), turning (Multi-axis), heat treating, gun drilling, grinding.

-Proven experience and proficiency in CNC programming (G-Code) for HMC, VMC & Multi-axis Lathes.

-Proven experience and proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks and MasterCAM preferred).

-Proven experience in identifying tooling, along with the appropriate operating conditions (speeds & feeds), process steps and fixture requirements to machine product in a safe, quality focused, process controlled and cost effective manner.

-Experience in using 3D-model-centric computer aided manufacturing (CAM) principles and the associated techniques to analyze the CAD models as they relate to manufacturability. This includes utilizing the 3D-model to create tool-paths for CNC programming.

-Experience participating on lean and/or 6σ teams utilizing continuous improvement techniques (SPC, RCA, Poka-Yoke, 5S, etc.).

-Demonstrated examples of successful cycle time/cost reduction efforts.

Kimber Mfg, Inc, a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with different plant locations in NY and NJ, has an immediate need for an experienced Prototype Tool and Dye Maker located in our Yonkers, NY location.  In this role, you will support the new product development (NPD) efforts of the Product Engineering Group.  In this vital and visible role you will develop the tools, fixtures, and methods to provide the rapid prototypes needed to validate design concepts.  This is a fast paced, innovative and dynamic environment

Responsibilities include:

-Interpret technical blueprints, sketches & drawings, including GD&T.  Accurately determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece. Perform first piece inspection using inspection equipment such as height gauge, micrometer and caliper.

-Fabricate precision components and/or instruments to high quality standards from a variety of materials (stainless steel, tool steel, aluminum, titanium, various plastics, etc.).   With support from Product Engineering, select and requisition proper materials for machining, welding, brazing, burning and heat-treating.

-Identify and fabricate any unique jigs, fixtures or tooling necessary to complete requested jobs. Consistently hold tight tolerances within the capability of the machines being used.

-Develop and modify layouts, repairs and/or makes modifications to precision instruments, machinery, apparatus, equipment components and sub-assemblies, drawings and schematics of machined parts, tools, for use in fabricating and performing machining operations in support of new product launches.

-Perform routine preventive maintenance on, set up, operate and maintain Tech Center (Model Shop/Tool Room) equipment including tool grinding machines, numerically and computer controlled machines, presses, lathes, milling machines, band saws, multi-purpose saws, grinders, drill presses, measuring instruments and other machine shop tools, machines and equipment.

-Provide technical input to Product and Manufacturing Engineering to support the development of improved product and process design, production process routing steps, operational print validation and tool/fixture design.


Required Work Experience:

-Ten or more years of experience in a similar role.

-Use of inspection equipment (hand tools including calipers and micrometers, comparator, etc.), ability to work independently.

Responsible for EHS, EPA and OSHA compliance as well as all regulatory laws of local, state and federal agencies pertaining to EHS. Provides effective leadership for all reporting department personnel.

Responsibilities include:

-Ensure that all management treatment of all direct-report personnel is fair and consistent.

-Establish rapport with all direct-reports and cross functional management.

-Recognize, coach  and mentor  personnel.

-Ensure that all maintenance personnel have the training and tools necessary to be successful.

-Set standards for personnel efficiency, plant cleanliness and orderliness.

-Manage capital budget requisition process.

-Oversight of EHS department, facilities and machine maintenance.

-Plan, budget and schedule facility modifications.

-Initiate planned maintenance procedures for machinery and facilities (TPM).

-Oversee and coordinate plant layout activities.

-Assure compliance with all company rules and policies, EHS, OSHA and regulatory agencies.

-Assure security of all facilities, maintaining all security systems of cameras, door access and theft-loss activities. Coordinates with Chief Compliance Officer.

-Manage outside contractors.

-Prepare annual budgets.


Required Skills

-Ten years of progressive related experience in facilities management.

-CNC machine shop maintenance experience required.

-EHS supervision experience required.

-Working knowledge of HVAC systems, waste treatment, cooling water systems, Kaizen, AutoCad, Electrical systems, Hydraulics, pneumatics, contracts, TPM, machining, Tool Cribs.

-Knowledge of Lean Mfg. Methods (Waste Elimination (Muda), 5S, Standard Work, Root Cause Analysis, TPM, Takt Time, VSM, Flow, Line Balance, SMED, Mistake Proofing, Employee Involvement, Kaizen).

-Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly, finishing and machining.

-Knowledge of techniques related to Process Capability analysis.


Desired Experience

-Experience leading and/or participating on lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma teams utilizing continuous improvement (SPC, CP(k), DOE, ANOVA, etc.).

-Experience utilizing Operation Research Software for Manufacturing Simulation and Optimization (Arena, ProModel or similar).

-Experience in use of SPC software, Minitab or equivalent.

By managing and coordinating all of the contributing disciplines post design validation, the incumbent will develop and drive related production ramp objectives. This visible leadership role reports directly to the COO, is and is based in our newly renovated Yonkers NY factory.

Responsibilities include:

This role will interface with most company departments working particularly close with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing.  You will be technical, hands on and an effective motivator of people; results driven.  You will also be capable of and interested in assuming more senior leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications:

-Demonstrable track record of successfully leading technical projects in a high volume discrete parts metal working environment.

-Minimum 10 yrs. discrete part metal working manufacturing experience.

-Strong Project management experience; Project leadership – P.M.C. desirable.

-Familiarity with Phase Gate NPD and PPAP a plus.

-Cross functional team builder/player with high levels of professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm; shirt sleeve style.

-Must have senior management potential/interest.
