Process Engineer- Finishing, Kimber Mfg., Inc. –Yonkers, NY

Kimber Mfg, Inc, a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with different plant locations in NY and NJ, has an immediate need for a Process Engineer- Finishing. In this role you will work with finishing to improve current processes and develop new methods for finishing firearm components to strict Kimber quality requirements. We will train an entry level engineer, or experienced process engineers also apply. This is a fast paced, innovative and dynamic environment

Responsibilities include:

The main function of this process engineering position is to provide support to manufacturing finishing operations. 

- Work closely with Finishing Supervisor to improve current processes and develop new finishing techniques.  
- Work with members of the assembly department to identify and understand issues related to finishing which are impacting assembly efficiency. Once identified develop solutions to improve process and prevent further issues.
- Identify opportunities within the finishing department to improve quality and throughput. 
- Setup, debug, qualify and provide training on new finishing equipment.
- Create standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions to further define finishing operations. Report progress and results to management via emails, written reports and presentations as required. 

Required Work Experience:

- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in metal removal industry.
- Knowledge of and experience with finishing of metal components.
- Knowledge of metal machining processes and how they affect surface finish quality.
- Experience with mass finishing operations such as tumbling, grinding, blasting, deburring, black oxide coating, painting and inspection of surface imperfections. 
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings. Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques.  
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Solidworks. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Required Education:

- Bachelor Degree in Engineering Science or Technology

Product Manager. In this role, the Product Manager will be the resident champion and voice of the customer internally for Kimber products.  As such, the Product Manager supports the category’s strategic planning, oversight and performance throughout the product line lifecycle. The Product Manager’s job also includes ensuring that the Sales & Marketing efforts align with and strengthen the Kimber brand.

Responsibilities include:

The Product Manager supports the development, execution and measuring of the annual product business plan which will define product, price, promotion and distribution based on assigned metrics. The Product Manager will coordinate efforts with existing functional departments to ensure the success of new products and the overall strategic product plan. To keep category offerings viable in the marketplace, the Product Manager will understand the target consumer, identify trends, exploit opportunities, and benchmark competitive products.

- Be the in-house category expert and act as the category leader within the company.
- Must be voice of the customer and ensure the customer’s viewpoint during planning.
- Develop initial sales forecast, pricing, and gross profit to meet company objectives.
- Define the product strategy in annual plan. Outline and refine 5 year plan.
- Monitor ongoing plan execution, note deviations and pursue remedies.
- Develop product positioning and feature/benefit messaging, and ensure effective delivery of messages through marketing and sales.
- Work closely with sales on pricing and forecasting to meet revenue and profitability goals.
- Help specify market requirements for current and future products through market research supported by ongoing customer and channel feedback.
- Plan & execute successful product launches.
- Be an expert with respect to the competition and emerging relevant technologies. Manage the New Product Development process for assigned verticals.

Secondary Functions:

- Advise on an itemized advertising and promotional budget to ensure the success of annual product plan. Collaborate on the creation and distribution of sales tools and collateral in support of marketing objectives including point of purchase. Brief and train inside sales force. Perform product demonstrations to key customers. Assist marketing and sales departments with product training and related materials. Attend relevant promotional events and new product introductions. Attend industry trade shows and select store level promotions. Be consistently seeking product enhancements and technologies. Be the internal voice of the customer and channel.

Required Work Experience:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- 3-10 years’ experience in product management, product marketing and/or product development.
- Firearms experience related to firearms, firearm manufacturing, and end-user applications.
- Experience with consumer products: firearms - outdoor market experience a plus..
- Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office suite, MS Project, Photoshop and Keyshot.

- Recommend revision to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other changes to improve productivity, quality and safety. 
- Provide manufacturing floor support to correct processing issues and promote continuous improvement initiatives.  
- Work in conjunction with Quality in preforming Process Capability studies to ensure the process is capable and in control. Develop visual/written procedures and work instructions.

Knowledge and experience in the areas of time and motion study, methods and flow analysis in a production environment to establish standard production cycle times and improve efficiency. 

- Experience in use of SPC software, Minitab or equivalent. Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques.  
- Experience in leading and/or participating in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma teams utilizing continuous improvement. (SPC, CP(k), DOE, ANOVA, etc.) 
- Able to demonstrate examples of successful cycle time/cost reduction efforts.

Junior Design Technician, Kimber Mfg., Inc. –Yonkers, NY

Under the general direction of the Handgun team, you  will provide technical support for the design, development and validation of new products, line extensions, and product improvements. 

Responsibilities include:

-Inspect and verify components, subassemblies and final assemblies to design requirements, as defined by CAD models, drawings and product specifications.

-Build prototype sub-assemblies and assemblies for functional and performance validation. Includes concept designs, early design stage prototypes, and design validation (DV) samples.  May include the procurement and coordination of build components and fixtures with internal resources and suppliers.

-Use and maintain engineering tools and equipment to support inspection and test including inspection hand tools, CMM, Keyence, trigger pull testing equipment, and similar.

-Provide testing support to engineers and test technician as needed. Includes non-firing testing at both modular and full product level. 

-Benchmark competitive products using criteria defined by the Product Engineers, including functional evaluation.

-Participate in technical design reviews. 

Required Work Experience:

-Five years of specialized technical experience working with complex mechanical and electro-mechanical designs.

-Demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading and GD&T (ASME Y14.5-1994).

-Able to use inspection equipment including calipers and micrometers, CMM, optical comparator, and similar.

-Basic knowledge of CAD software, including the use of Solidworks eDrawings and model manipulation within Solidworks.  Good understanding of CAD database methodology.

-Good understanding of configuration control principles and Stage-Gate product development methods.  Experience in transitioning product designs to the manufacturing floor.

-Strong teamwork and communication skills:  Demonstrated ability to work as part of a cross-functional team, but also able to work independently.  Good communication skills.

-Preferred: Proven ability to safely use and troubleshoot firearms.

Manufacturing Engineer, Kimber Mfg., Inc. –Yonkers, NY

Kimber Mfg, Inc, a rapidly growing and leading manufacturer of fine sporting firearms with different plant locations in NY and NJ, has an immediate need for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer located in our Yonkers, NY location.

As part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, design and develop the 3-D CAD models and supporting documentation to fully define the manufacturing and process steps required to manufacture tight tolerance, mechanical components and assemblies in a robust, repeatable, and reliable manner.  This includes the design and development of fixtures, tooling, gages, and test equipment. 

Required Work Experience: 

-Define the process operations, and correct sequencing of these operations, to support the manufacture of quality mechanical components and assemblies.

-Design and develop fixtures, tooling, and gages using Solidworks as the primary CAD system, using best practices including DFM, DFA, DTC and stack analysis.  May include the design and development of engineering and production test fixtures.  A portion of this effort will require a working knowledge of AutoCad.

-Define the product configuration and part geometry in fully dimensioned 2-D drawings directly linked to 3-D files for each manufacturing operation.  A solid understanding of GD&T is a must.

-Manage Bill of Materials, including a full definition of material selection and raw material configuration. 

-Ensure proper documentation of design revisions for the full Technical Data Package including CAD, BOM, engineering masters, routings, etc.

-Initiate and participate in cross-functional design reviews to ensure new designs are optimized for manufacturability.  Support the development and execution of project timelines.

-Support Product Engineering, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing during initial prototyping and production runs.

Preferred Qualifications

-Minimum 5 years Manufacturing Engineering experience in high volume manufacturing environment.  Firearms experience is a plus.

-Capable of working with limited supervision.

-Demonstrated, strong knowledge of Solidworks, working knowledge of AutoCAD.

-Strong knowledge of GD&T.

-Working knowledge of Visual or other manufacturing resource planning software.

-Must be organized and maintain accurate and neat records and files.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Must be able to function and work in a team environment.

Education:

-Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent

 Duties and Responsibilities:

Fabricate precision components and/or instruments to high quality standards from a variety of materials (stainless steel, tool steel, aluminum, titanium, various plastics)

Read, understand & interprets blueprint & drawings.

Develops & modify layouts, repairs and/or make modifications to precision instruments, machinery, apparatus, equipment components & sub-assemblies, drawings and schematics of machined parts, tools, for use in fabricating and preforming machining operations.

Perform routine preventive maintenance on machine shop equipment.   Recondition cutting tools and tool bits for all maintenance and construction shops.

Sets up, operate and maintain tool grinding machines, numerically and computer controlled machines, presses, lathes, milling machines.

Grinding experience necessary (surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, jig grinding) all to close tolerances.  Drill presses, measuring instruments and other machine shop tools.

Select and requisition proper materials for machining, welding, brazing, burning and heat-treating.  Identify and fabricate any unique jigs, fixtures or tooling necessary to complete requested jobs.

Business Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience/Education Requirements:

•           Required: 3-8 years prior tool making experience 

•           Preferred: CNC and Master Cam experience a plus
